How to: Style your summer dinner party
At the Green Box we are all about reinventing the wreath and reimagining ways to use your Green Box Wreath in and around your home. Who doesn’t love a summer dinner party? Warm nights, friends, yummy food, and delicious cocktails…best of all a beautifully laid table. Using your Green Box wreath can be very simple on a table.
First, you want to start with your linen. A beautiful tablecloth can bring in gorgeous color and add to the festive table, however, you don’t have to have a tablecloth, especially if you want to showcase a beautiful dining table.
Next I like to place my wreath on the center of the table to let this set the stage for the rest of the items I use. You can do many things in the middle of your wreath. Candlesticks, a pretty ginger jar, or fresh flowers can make pretty additional centerpieces, pictures in acrylic frames if you are celebrating someone special, or leave it for the salt and pepper, bread basket, butter tray, etc.
Once your wreath is set, I like to decide whether I will use chargers or just set plates on the table. chargers can add another layer of interest and texture, but you can also keep things simple with just a pretty plate.
Deciding on what plates to use can vary, depending on what is available to you. I love using a beautiful, simple white plate in the summertime. However, adding in pattern and color can also give your table an added pop. Depending on your tablecloth and plate pattern, you will want to choose a coordinating napkin. Napkins are fun to play around with. I like to fold them on the side of the plate if I am using patterned dishes, or place them in a triangle shape, with or without a pretty napkin ring, on top of white dishes.
Once you have your napkin set, you can place your utensils. This can be another fun place to add something different, or you can keep it classic and use your own everyday flatware. Last, you will want to select your glasses. This is dependent on what you plan to serve to your guests. A water glass is a fun place to add in color and interest. However, keeping your glassware simple is beautiful too. So many of your tabletop choices depend on what you have available for use.
